O'Boyle, Camlin on to nationals
Ryan O'Boyle and Joe Camlin earn co-male athlete of the week honors after finishing second at their respective weight classes at the NCAA Division III East Regional on Saturday, advancing to the NCAA Div. III Championship.
O'Boyle finished second at 133 but still punched his ticket to Cedar Rapids with a 3-1 day. O'Boyle opened his day with a 33-second pin of Muhlenberg's Patrick Fruehling before adding a 9-3 win over Stevens' Ryan Wilson to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, O'Boyle, the third seeded, upended second-seeded Myzar Mendoza of Wilkes 7-3 but fell to NYU's Brendon Jones for the second week in a row. Jones notched a 3-1 win in sudden victory.
Camlin also finished second, punching his ticket for the national tournament after a 3-1 day at heavyweight. Camlin's day opened with a 1-minute, 8-second pin of Mt. St. Vincent's Victor Vasquez before adding a fall in 1:58 of Gettysburg's Kevin Poplaski. In the semifinals, he added a third pin, topping NYU's Anthony Chu in 1:23. In the championship bout, top-seeded Joseph Zitrone (Centenary) prevailed over the second-seeded Camlin, 9-4.
