Washington gets offensive late to down McDaniel, 11-2
Harold Baines, Jr. (St. Michaels, Md./St. Michaels) notched two hits to lead the Green Terror (11-8, 4-4 CC), who built a 2-0 lead through the first three innings but were limited to four base runners over the final six innings while the Shoremen (9-11, 3-5 CC) plated 11 unanswered runs.
Ryan Normoyle led off the home fourth with a triple before scoring one batter later on a Perret double. Perret later scored from third on a Ben Keaton RBI groundout to even the game.
A wild pitch, hit batter and three stolen bases coupled with a Normoyle RBI single and Perret two-run knock up the middle gave the hosts a 5-2 lead one inning later.
Four singles, including RBI knocks from Brian Kramer and John Lambert, and a walk loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth with two runs already home.
Perret cleared the bags with the Washington’s second triple of the game before scoring on a Matt Boucher single to set the final margin.
Matthew Pace (Baltimore, Md./North County) led off the visitor second with a walk before advancing on an error and scoring on a Zach Croft (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) single for a 1-0 lead.
The Green Terror doubled the advantage in the top of the third with doubles from Baines and Pace.
Freshman Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md./St. John’s College Prep), in his first collegiate start, struck out five in seven innings. Five of the six hits he allowed came in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Green Terror concludes the season series with Washington (Md.) at home on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
