Green Terror breaks out bats in 5-3 nightcap win after Loras takes 7-2 opener

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Matthew Pace (Baltimore, Md./North County) went a combined 3-for-5 to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader split with Loras in non-conference baseball action at the 2011 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Thursday.

Pace recorded three hits for the Green Terror (5-4) in a 5-3 game-two victory.

Kyle Barton led the Duhawks (3-3) with a 3-for-3 showing in a 7-2 win in the opener.

After being held to a season-low three hits in game one, McDaniel rapped out 14 hits in the nightcap.

With two outs in the seventh of a 3-all deadlock, Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) singled to right-center.

Pace followed with a double to chase Cole Boge with runners at second and third.

Ryan Byrnes (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) greeted Spencer Radabaugh with an RBI single to break the deadlock before Matthew Bodnar (Douglasville, Pa./Central Catholic) added an insurance run, plating Pace with a single to right.

Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the frame to go the distance for his first win of the year.

A Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) staked the Green Terror to a 1-0 lead with a one-out solo home run in the second.

Austin Brown led off the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle before stealing second.

After a walk, Eric DeSousa singled to score Brown before an RBI fielder's choice plated Travis Olsen for a 2-1 advantage.

A Patrick Christopher (Union Bridge, N.J./St. John Vianney) two-out single and James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) followed with a double to even the game at 2-all in the visitor third.

A Chiorello double, Najera single and wild pitch gave McDaniel a 3-2 edge in the fifth before a two-out error in the home sixth before an Olsen single was able to score BJ Juergens, who had a one-out knock up the middle.

In the opener, an error coupled with Kyle Barton single and stolen base put runners at second and third with two outs for DeSousa, who singled through the left side to give Loras a 2-1 lead.

Joe Walker led off the visitor third with a single and stolen base before scoring on a Calvin Rea single for a 3-1 advantage.

A one-out walk to Pace, hit batter and Bodnar single loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth.

Brandon Kline (Myersville, Md./Middletown) followed with a sacrifice fly to pull McDaniel within 3-2.

DeSousa was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a passed ball.

Back-to-back walks loaded the bases before Rea cleared the bags with a double and scored on a Brown RBI double to cap a four-run frame.

A Kline single, throwing error and wild pitch before a Christopher RBI groundout staked the Green Terror to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) fanned seven batter in six innings of work.
