Gettysburg bats around the first to open up big lead en route to 6-2 win over McDaniel

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Chris Simard was one of four Gettysburg players with two hits, adding an RBI, run scored and walk in four plate appearances, to lead his team to a 6-2 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Thursday.

Patrick Christopher (Union Bridge, N.J./St. John Vianney) rapped out two hits – one of four players with multiple hits for the Green Terror (11-16, 4-11 CC), adding a walk and run scored.

Clint O'Brien and Tommy LeNoir added 2-for-4 performances with an RBI and run scored for the Bullets (10-20, 4-11 CC), who scored five times in the bottom of the first to jump on top early.

After a Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) leadoff double and two-out steal of third, McDaniel took a 1-0 lead on a fielding error that allowed the sophomore to score on the same play.

With one out in the first, Simard singled up the middle and moved to second on a wild pitch.

With two outs, Matt Karis drew a five-pitch walk and Pat Cody singled to right to score Simard and knot the game.

An O'Brien RBI single in the gap and LeNoir double to same gap stretched the lead to 3-1.

O'Brien made it 4-1, scoring from third on a wild pitch before Cory Jackmuff reached on an infield single that plated LeNoir from third.

A Christopher bunt single with one out in the fifth and Chris Longo (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) base knock to right put runners at first and second.

A flyout moved Chirstopher to third before Ricky LaSota (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) followed with a double to cut the deficit to 5-2.

A Patrick O'Grady double and Simard single pushed the lead back to four in the bottom of the sixth.

Back-to-back one-out walks in the ninth gave the Green Terror a chance but a pair of groundouts stranded the final two of 12 runners on base.

Gettysburg finished with a slim 11-10 advantage in the hit column.

Ryan Taylor stuck out 11 batters in eight innings of work for the Bullets.

McDaniel returns to action when it concludes the home-and-home series with Gettysburg at home on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
