CHESTERTOWN, Pa. – Washington (Md.) scored all six of its runs in the final two innings, including the winning run with one out in the ninth, to defeat McDaniel 6-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Friday.

Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) led the Green Terror (11-5, 0-2 CC) with a 3-for-5 day, adding two RBIs and a run scored.

Scott Matthews paced the Shoremen (17-2, 2-0 CC) with three hits, including an eighth-inning grand slam that capped the five-run frame.

Trailing 3-0 with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Sean Connole reached on an infield single before taking second on an error.

A second error allowed Nick Marinelli to reach and put runners at the corners.

After a walk to Ryan Normoyle chased starter Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) after 7 1/3 innings, a wild pitch scored Connole before a groundout got the second out of the inning.

A walk to Tyler Cotterell reloaded the bases for Matthews, who jacked a pitch over the left-field fence to turn the 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 advantage.

Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) and Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) drew back-to-back walks to lead off the ninth inning before a fielder's choice and throwing error put Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) on third and scored Jackow to pull the visitors within 5-4.

A wild pitch allowed Christopher to score to tie the game. Kyle Aldrich and Matt Christopher combined to work around a pair of walks and get out of the inning tied.

The Shoreman's Christopher led off the bottom of the inning with a single before taking second on a wild pitch and third on a Connole sacrifice.

A Marinelli single to center field one batter later plated the game-winning run.

Betts led off the second inning with a solo home run to stake McDaniel to a 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, Ricky LaSota (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) took second on an error to lead off the frame before scoring on a Betts single.

Singles from Hayward and LaSota stretched the lead to 3-0 with two outs in the seventh.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
