Freeman goes 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg jumped out to a 12-0 lead en route to a 15-9 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball victory over McDaniel on Friday.

Mike Freeman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Tom Gallo (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) each went 2-for-2 off the bench for the Green Terror (19-10, 7-7 CC) with a combined five RBIs. Freeman knocked in three runs while Gallo knocked in two.

Cory Karagjozi went 4-for-6 with three RBIs to lead the Bullets (19-10, 8-6 CC), who swept the key series to enter the final four games of the season in a three-way tie for third place in the CC standings.

After Drew Felsenthal, who went seven innings with eight strikeouts, had retired the first 12 batters he faced, Clint O'Brien drew a walk to lead off the fourth inning before McDaniel starter Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) balked him to second after not completing the throw on a pickoff attempt.

Cam MacDonald roped a single to left field to score O'Brien before an infield single and hit batter loaded the bases.

Karagjozi laced a ball to center that scored two runs and a misplay in the outfield allowed him to take second and the bases to clear for a 4-0 lead.

A Pat Cody leadoff infield single in the fifth followed by a Nate Simon double stretched the lead to 5-0 before a flyout allowed Simon to tag and a wild pitch allowed him to score for a 6-0 advantage.

The Bullets sent 10 batters to plate in the sixth and used six singles, including a bunt single from Patrick O'Grady, and a Karajozi double to double the lead.

Hayden Athey (Potomac, Md./St. John's College) started off a series of pinch hitters in the seventh inning with a single.

Freeman followed with a walk before Dan French (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) was hit by a one-out pitch to load the bases.

After a passed ball broke up the shutout, Gallo and PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) each singled home runs with two outs to trim the deficit to 12-3.

A pair of errors coupled with three hits, including an Andrew Hollis RBI double, led to three unearned runs in the bottom of the frame.

French led off the ninth inning with a triple that rolled to the wall in left-center before Garret Nemser (Hartsdale, N.Y./Edgemont) drew a walk and Longo singled up the middle to score French.

After a strikeout, Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's drew a walk to load the bases for Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney), who drew a walk of his own to make it a 15-5 game.

Athey singled home Gallo before Freeman roped a double to clear the bases and set the final margin.

Athey finished the day with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Ursinus on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
