LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the McDaniel baseball team have been named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) team, released on Thursday.
Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) earned first-team honors while Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) and Pat Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) were named to the second team.
Jones, a senior pitcher, earns his second all-conference honors after being named honorable mention in 2012. Jones becomes just the sixth Green Terror player to earn first-team All-CC honors after leading the team with a 1.90 earned-run average, which ranks third in the conference. He is tied for the conference lead with nine wins. He is currently 9-1 with 78 strikeouts in 71.0 innings. His 78 Ks are second in the conference. Jones has made 11 starts with five complete games and three shutouts. In his final start of the regular season, Jones set a new program record for strikeouts in a career with 216. He also threw a no-hitter on Mar. 9.
Betts, a junior first baseman, makes his first appearance on the all-conference team. Betts leads the team with a .349 batting average. He paces the squad with 44 hits, including a team-best 11 doubles and is tied for the team lead with two home runs. He is also tops on the team with 22 RBIs and 26 runs scored, starting all 35 of his appearances.
Christopher, a senior outfielder, earns his third all-conference accolades after being tabbed honorable mention in 2011 and second team last year. Starting all 35 of his appearances, Christopher became the program's all-time hits leader earlier in the season and ranks second on the squad in 2013 with 43 base knocks. His .326 average ranks third on the squad. He has two doubles, two triples and two home runs on the year.
The Green Terror (21-15, 10-8 CC) will await the announcement of the ECAC South field on Monday to see if its season continues.
