Sivo records three hits

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Otterbein scored four runs in the top of the first inning in game one to jumpstart a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel at the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Saturday.

The Cardinals (7-1) took the opener 9-5 before completing the sweep with a 10-6 victory in game two.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led the Green Terror (2-5) with three hits in the twinbill, including going 2-for-3 with two runs scored in game one.

Nick Pitzer led Otterbein with four hit, including a 3-for-3 performance in the opener.

Four straight singles with one out in the top of the first led to a 1-0 lead before a Thomas Linder two-run single with two outs stretched the lead to 3-0.

A double steal with runners at the corners made it a 4-0 game.

Sivo drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the first before Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) reached on a two-out infield single.

A hit batter loaded the bases and Tom Gallo (Bernardsville, Md./Bernards) and Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) each followed with RBI singles to slice the deficit in half.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) led off the bottom of the second with a double down the left-field line before a Sivo bunt single put runners at the corners.

After Sivo stole second to put two runners in scoring position, a Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) sacrifice fly drew McDaniel within 4-3 before Sico scored the tying run on a Betts infield single with two outs.

Singles from Nich Pitzer and Tyler Kent led off the top of the third before an RBI groundout and Mark Walton single up the middle put Otterbein back in front, 6-4.

Four straight singles, an error and sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 9-4 in the top of the fourth.

Fiore and Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's drew back-to-back walks to lead off the fifth.

Sivo was hit by a pitch with one out to load the bases for Windisch, whose single up the middle scored Fiore but the Cardinals stranded the bases loaded.

In game two, Otterbein opened up a 8-0 lead after two innings. A Sean Kettering two-run home run accounted for a 2-0 advantage in the first inning.

With one out in the second, Christian Chiero singled and Walton followed with a double to put runners at second and third.

A Taylor Hutchinson RBI groundout pushed the lead to 3-0 before Caleb Norton was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners.

Three straight singles and a Kent double capped the six-run frame.

Back-to-back walks to Phillips and Hayward in advance of a Windisch one-out single made it a 6-1 game in the top of the third.

The Cardinals pushed the lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the sixth before McDaniel plated five runs in the top of the seventh.

Hayward led off with an infield single before giving way to Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) as a pinch runner.

Cody Dorsey (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) followed with a pinch-hit single before a PJ Anderson (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) single loaded the bases.

Logan Seitz (Columbia, Md./Howard) followed with an RBI groundout to score Nazelrod before Michael Palsi (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) single scored Dorsey to make it a 10-3 game.

After a Donald Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) walk, Gallo doubled to score Anderson and Palsi before a Brad Hampton (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) sacrifice fly set the final margin.

The Green Terror returns to action against SUNY Fredonia in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday. Game time is 7 p.m.
