Betts records three hits in victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. - McDaniel scored three runs in the seventh inning to break open a 3-0 game and defeat St. Joseph's (L.I.) 6-0 at the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.

Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) led the Green Terror (3-7) with a 3-for-4 day, adding an RBI.

Joe Liberatore paced the Golden Bears (2-7) with three hits of his own.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) drew a walk to lead off the top of the third inning before Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) followed with a single.

A Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's) sacrifice moved the runners to second and third before Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) singled home Hayward for a 1-0 lead.

A Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) sacrifice fly doubled the advantage.

A Phillips double and Valori RBI single stretched the lead to 3-0 in the fifth.

Sivo led off the sixth with a single before stealing second.

A Windisch walk and Valori fielder's choice pushed the lead to 4-0 before a Betts RBI knock and Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) sacrifice fly set the final margin.

Michael Casper (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) went eight innings, striking out five for the win.

McDaniel returns to action against Wis.-Platteville on Thursday. Game time is 1 p.m.
