Hampton records two hits
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg scored two runs in the top of the first and never trailed en route to a 8-3 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball victory over McDaniel on Tuesday.
Brad Hampton (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) led the Green Terror (14-16, 8-7 CC) with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Tommy LeNoir recorded four hits for the 24th-ranked Bullets (28-5, 13-2 CC), who clinched the top seed in next week's CC tournament.
Austin Davis led off the game with a bunt single before taking second on a wild pitch and scoring on a Cory Karagjozi triple for a 1-0 lead.
A Nate Simon one-out single stretched the lead to 2-0.
Caragjozi singled up the middle with one out in the fifth before scoring on an Al Posch double.
Two batters later, LeNoir tripled Posch home for a 4-0 lead before scoring on a Mike Kielbasa single to make it a 5-0 game.
Hampton led off the eighth inning with a single before scoring on a Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) triple down the right-field line.
A Chad Nazelrod (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 5-2.
Back-to-back walks to Davis and Karagjozi coupled with a Posch two-run single stretched the lead back to five.
LeNoir doubled home Posch for an 8-2 lead with two outs.
Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) drew a walk to lead off the ninth before Justin Myers (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) took second on a ground out, third on a passed ball and score on a Hampton RBI groundout to set the final margin.
McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series with the Bullets at Gettysburg on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
