AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Fredonia scored five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-3 win over McDaniel at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in baseball action on Monday.
Colin Franke (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) led the Green Terror (3-3) with two hits.
Jon Morrison went 3-for-4 for the Blue Devils (7-1) and was one of five players with multiple hits.
Trailing 3-1, Daniel Goodbread led off the fourth inning with a double before Morrison followed with a double of his own to draw Fredonia within one.
An error and fielder's choice allowed Morrison to score the tying run before a Kevin Yirinec RBI single put the Blue Devils in front, 4-3.
An RBI groundout and two-out Patrick Sheehan double to left capped the five-run frame.
Morrison was hit by a pitch with one away in the seventh before a Joshua Crocetti double put runners at second and third.
Nicolas Fiore followed with a two-run single and Joseph Coene added another RBI knock to set the final margin.
Zachary Glover (Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall) reached on a one-out single in the bottom of the first before a walk and Kasey Nelson (St. Pete's Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) RBI single to right gave McDaniel a 1-0 lead.
Tim Griest (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) added a two-out single to center for a 2-0 lead.
An error and Fiore single cut the deficit in half in the top of the second before Franke rapped a leadoff single in the bottom of the frame and used a pair of wild pitches to reestablish the two-run lead.
McDaniel returns to action against Anderson (Ind.) on Wednesday. Game time is 9 a.m.
