Fern R. Hitchcock Memorial Most Valuable Player Award
The award was named after Fern R. Hitchcock '47 on May 7, 2004. Fern was the head athletic trainer and assistant professor of physical education at Western Maryland College for 25 years (1959-84).
He also served as head baseball coach for 15 years (1963-77). His teams were Mason-Dixon Conference Champions in 1966 and 1968. The 1965 team was Mason-Dixon Northern Division Champions. His teams were Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division Champions in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, and 1973.
Fern was inducted into the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
