McDaniel elects 2010 captains
Cahill, Kolb, Slaughter to lead team in 116th campaign
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel head football coach Tim Keating announced on Friday that the team has elected its captains for the 2010 season. Three of the Green Terror's seniors will serve in the leadership role for the upcoming 116th campaign.
Matt Cahill (Broomall, Pa./Haverford Twp.) and Aaron Slaughter (Baltimore, Md./Loyola) will serve as captains for the third consecutive season while Chris Kolb (Keymar, Md./Francis Scott Key) will join the two fifth-year seniors as a team leader in 2010.
Cahill and Slaughter become the first players in the history of the football program to serve as three-time captains.
Cahill, a wide receiver, led the team in receiving last year, hauling in 52 receptions for 787 yards – the second most receiving yards in program history. He had seven touchdown receptions. He enters 2010 ranked fifth all-time with 1,499 yards.
Slaughter, a defensive back, missed the entire 2009 season with injury but returns to the field with 148 career tackles, an interception, 11 passes defended and four fumble recoveries.
Kolb, a defensive back, has 85 career tackles in his first two seasons with the team to go with six interceptions and 10 pass breakups. In 2009, he ranked fifth on the team with 50 tackles.
McDaniel opens the season at Centennial Conference-foe Juniata on Sept. 4. Game time is 1 p.m.
