Rollins named Player of the Week
LANCASTER, Pa. – Joe Rollins (Temple Hills, Md./Surrattsville), a freshman on the McDaniel football team, has been named Centennial Conference (CC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 6.
Rollins joined Muhlenberg's Dan Deighan to become the eighth Green Terror player this season to be recognized by the conference.
Rollins led McDaniel (5-4, 4-4 CC) in its thrilling 36-30 triple-overtime victory over Gettysburg on Saturday, rushing for a career-high 294 yards. A key part of the attack, the rookie became the Green Terror's first 200-yard rusher since 2005, carrying the ball 34 times for the highest single-game total since Joe Brockmeyer ran for a program-record 311 in 1970. Rollins added 31 yards receiving for 325 all-purpose yards. He also ran for a touchdown, sprinting 65 yards on the first play of the second half.
It was also the second-best rushing day for a freshman in CC history and the most yards by any conference back since Swarthmore's Ken Smith ran for 317 against Franklin & Marshall in 2000.
For the season, Rollins leads the team with 560 yards on just 75 carries, averaging 7.5 yards per attempt. He has two rushing touchdowns. He also has 17 receptions for 137 yards and a score.
The Green Terror concludes the season at Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
