WESTMINSTER, Md. – Bair Stadium is already buzzing even though kickoff for the first official home game isn't for another week. Football fans find the best of both worlds at the private, liberal arts college where its bowl-shaped stadium provides the only drive-in college football stadium in the nation. Since the 1920s, when automobiles become the popular means of transportation, fans have parked their vehicles and set up tailgating parties around the rim of the bowl. No wonder, tailgating at McDaniel has been as much a staple as the forward pass itself.

For the 2011 season, McDaniel is doing the unthinkable – improving that experience. The College in partnership with Westminster-based radio station, WTTR-AM 1470, will add a two-hour on-site Green Terror Tailgate Party. Prior to the six home games this fall, WTTR's Joe Evelius will broadcast his regularly scheduled Saturday show live featuring "the greatest hits of all-time" – a mix of songs from the '50s through the '90s – and feature interviews with McDaniel coaches, students, staff and alumni in an effort to update fans and the listening audience to the diverse campus activities available to the public.

"While the game remains the central focus, we expect this new partnership to give us a perfect opportunity to earn wider support for our teams and our full calendar of activities available for everyone in the area," said Paul Moyer, McDaniel's new director of athletics.

The College and WTTR enjoy a long-standing relationship in which the local station broadcasts live coverage of all McDaniel football games and many of the men's and women's basketball games, both on the air and livestreaming at wttr.com.

McDaniel fans will be able to visit DJ Evelius at the station's game-day operation located near the north endzone at the Western Maryland caboose, make song requests, and compete for prizes offered by local businesses during the pre-game festivities.

Admission to all Green Terror home football games is free. Only fans who wish to drive into the stadium and park are charged $5 per car.
