Dixon lifts McDaniel to first win of season, 2-1 overtime victory at St. Marys
ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – Brooke Dixon (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) rocketed a shot into the right corner with just 3 minutes, 48 seconds elapsed in the first overtime period to lift McDaniel to a 2-1 victory at St. Mary’s (Md.) in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday.
With the win, the Green Terror (1-2) gets its first win of the
season despite being outshot by the Seahawks (2-2) by an 18-16
margin.
McDaniel carried play in the extra session, earning the lone
penalty corner and firing the only three shots of the period before
Dixon’s game-winner.
After a scoreless first half, Jessica Largent (Denton,
Md./North Caroline) put back a Lindsay Riordon
(Monkton, Md./Hereford) shot-and-save to open the scoring
at the 47:09 mark.
Nearly four minutes later, Emily Norris rebounded
an Allie Skiest shot-and-save to even the game at
1.
Freshman Stephanie Thompson (Glen Burnie,
Md./Chesapeake), making her first collegiate start in the
cage, made eight saves for the victory. Emma
Lauhoff made five stops at the other end.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Washington and
Lee on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
