Late goal lifts Washington and Lee
McDaniel drops 2-1 decision to Generals on first day of Virginia trip
LEXINGTON, Va. - Alex Cartis scored with 6:18 to play to break a 1-all deadlock and lift Washington and Lee to a 2-1 victory over McDaniel in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday.
Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Hereford) tallied the lone goal for the Green Terror (1-2), who were outshot 14-8 in the game.
The Generals (1-1) took a 1-0 lead into the intermission on an unassisted goal from Sallie Armstrong with 1:35 showing in the first half.
At the 48:33 mark, Riordon notched her own solo marker to even the game before Cartis finished a Christina Benedetti assist in the 64th minute for the game-winner.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made eight saves for McDaniel in goal while Caroline Habiston made two stops at the other end.
The Green Terror returns to action at Eastern Mennonite on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m.
