Double overtime win keeps McDaniel alive
Green Terror notch 1-0 win at Washington to stay in thick of playoff chase
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Mandy Pickard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) scored the lone goal of the game 2:36 into the second overtime to lead McDaniel to a 1-0 Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey win over Washington (Md.) on Saturday.
The Green Terror (7-8, 5-3 CC) snapped its mini two-game skid to improve to 5-3 in CC play, assuring itself that the team will finish the day in no worse than a tie for fourth place with two games to play. The top five teams make the conference tournament.

After the hosts carried play in the first overtime, holding a 9-4 advantage in shots and 7-2 advantage in penalty corners, Pickard made McDaniel's second shot of the second extra session count.
Katherine Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) found Pickard, who blasted a shot into the left side for her 10th of the season and the game-winner.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made six saves for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at No. 14 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
