Fords down McDaniel 3-2 to knock Green Terror from postseason
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Mary Hobbs scored with 1:53 to play, lifting Haverford to a 3-2 Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey victory over McDaniel on Saturday.
With the victory, the Fords (8-9, 6-4 CC) earn the fourth seed in the upcoming CC tournament where they will play host to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. By virtue of the Diplomats' 4-2 win at Swarthmore, the Green Terror (7-10, 5-5 CC) was eliminated from postseason contention on the final day of the regular season for the second straight year.
Katherine Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded a goal and an assist for McDaniel.
After Jones tallied unassisted with 4:04 to play, knotting the game at 2, Hobbs lifted a shot into the right corner for the game-winner.
Eliza Blatchford (Gloucester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) tapped home a Jones cross in the game's 24th minute to open the scoring.
Fewer than two minutes later, Juliana Morgan-Trostle evened the game before Josie Ferri put Haverford on top entering halftime, finishing a Hobbs feed with 2:06 reamining in the first half.
The Fords finished with an 11-5 edge in shots and 22-5 advantage in penalty corners.
