Captains hand Green Terror second shutout of year

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Sarah Wister scored on a penalty stroke in the 27th minute to get Christopher Newport on the board en route to a 3-0 win over McDaniel in non-conference field hockey action at the U.S. National Training Center on Saturday.

The Captains (3-1) added a pair of unassisted tallies in the second half, outshooting the Green Terror (1-2) by a 22-5 margin along the way.

Kelsey Rigby and Chrissy Kurecki added markers in the 38th and 47th minutes, respectively.

Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made seven saves in goal. Stephanie Hammond (Parkton, Md./Hereford) helped the defensive cause with three of the team's five defensive saves.

McDaniel concludes its trip to the U.S. National Training Center on Sunday against Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is 3 p.m.
