McDaniel wins defensive battle
Green Terror tallies 2-1 victory over Stevenson
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) broke a 1-all deadlock in the 51st minute to lift McDaniel to a 2-1 non-conference field hockey victory over Stevenson on Thursday.
The Green Terror (3-6) recorded just seven shots but held the Mustangs (6-7) to a mere two second-half shots to snap its four-game skid.
After netting just two first-half shots – both in the final 5:25 of the first half and one with the clock at 0:00 on a penalty corner, McDaniel had early second-half pressure.
Off a corner in the 39th minute, Kaitlin Boerman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) redirected a Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) shot for a 1-0 lead.
Shelby Ballew knocked home a crossing pass from Kaitlyn May to even the game at the 49:50 mark.
Just 56 seconds later, Meszler was able to corral a loose ball off a misplay by the Mustang keeper for the game-winner.
The Green Terror had a 17-7 advantage in penalty corners.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
