Big first half carries McDaniel

Green Terror tallies four in first half en route to 4-2 win at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) scored 3 minutes, 35 seconds apart to stretch a 2-0 lead to 4-0 at halftime en route to McDaniel's 4-2 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (5-7, 3-3 CC) got three assists from Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City), including feeding Meszler for both of the freshman's tallies.

Catie Meador and Sophia Feruson scored for the Garnet (6-8, 3-3 CC), who finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots, including 9-3 in the second half.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) opened the scoring 14:01 into the game, finishing the first of three Corson assists.

Just 3:15 later, Danielle DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) one-timed a Kaitlin Boerman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) pass to double the advantage.

In the 25th minute, Corson sent a pass in front of the keeper to Meszler, who finished for a 3-0 advantage before the two connected again at the 28:23 mark.

Meador converted a penalty stroke at the 41:29 mark to break up the shutout before Ferguson set the final margin off a Sophia Agathis assist with 2:35 on the clock.

Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made seven saves in cage for McDaniel while Katie Ashmore made four stops at the other end.

The Green Terror returns to action at Gettysburg on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
