Gettysburg blanks McDaniel
Bullets tally 3-0 victory in key CC game
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Emily Kleinburd staked Gettysburg to a 1-0 halftime lead en route to a 3-0 Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey victory over McDaniel on Tuesday.
The Bullets (6-8, 4-8 CC) finished with a 22-6 advantage in shots to break up a three-way deadlock for the fifth and final playoff spot in the conference standings.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) led the Green Terror (5-8, 3-4 CC) in the cage with seven saves.
Off a corner in the 33rd minute, Kleinburd blasted home a Martha Tahsler pass for a 1-0 halftime lead.
Just 4:49 into the second half, Nicole Meredyth found Alyssa Heimbach, who shot from straightaway 10 yards out to double the advantage.
Meredyth set the final margin off a scramble in the 49th minute.
Michelle Deitrick (Mt. Lakes, N.J./Mt. Lakes) made two defensive saves for McDaniel
The Green Terror returns to action at York (Pa.) on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
