McDaniel opens season with 2-0 win at Washington and Lee
LEXINGTON, Va. – A pair of goals in the first 5:26 of the season half was the difference, lifting McDaniel to a 2-0 non-conference victory at Washington and Lee in 2011 field hockey season opener on Monday.
Freshman Natalie Price (Elkton, Md./Elkton) scored her first collegiate goal and Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) added the insurance, lifting the Green Terror (1-0) to a win in its opener for the first time since 2007.
Kristen Kyne made five saves in goal for the Generals (1-2), splitting time with Caroline Sutherland, who allowed the two goals.
After an even first half in which both teams recorded nine shots, McDaniel capitalized just 2:08 into the second half when Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) found Price to break up the shutout.
Just 3:18 later, Jones hit the backboard with an unassisted marker and the 2-0 lead.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made six saves for the shutout in goal.
McDaniel returns to action at Stevenson on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
