Second-half strong

Riordon registers second hat trick of season

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Hereford) recorded her second hat trick of the season, leading McDaniel to a 4-2 non-conference field hockey victory over York (Pa.) on Thursday.

The Green Terror (5-1) notched three second-half goals, including the second two of Riordon's three, to overcome a 2-1 halftime deficit.

Madi Wilt scored both goals for the Spartans (5-3), who turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage in fewer than 10 minutes.

In the 49th minute, Danielle DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) passed a long ball into the circle that got passed the York keeper. Riordon was able to redirect the ball and hit the backboard to knot the game at 2-all.

Off a corner in the 60th minute, Hope Battista (Crofton, Md./South River) dropped a ball to the near post for Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City), who knocked it just inside the near post for a 3-2 advantage.

Riordon rebounded a Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) shot off the keeper's pads into a wide open backside of the cage for a 4-2 lead and her third collegiate hat trick.

Riordon staked McDaniel to a 1-0 lead on the game's first shot just 1:46 into the game after Natalie Price (Elkton, Md./Elkton) dribbled in from the top and passed to her left.

A pair of Wilt tallies at 19:46 and 29:14 – both of which came after long hits deflected off the keeper – turned the one-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage.

The Green Terror finished with advantage of 14-5 in shots and 12-4 in penalty corners, including edges of 11-1 and 11-3, respectively, in the second half.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
