Thomson makes nine saves

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Swarthmore scored in the 25th minute and made it stand up for a key 1-0 Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made nine saves for the Green Terror (8-4, 3-3 CC) in goal while Gabriella Capone made six saves for the Garnet (6-7, 3-4 CC) to earn the shutout.

Beth Johnson spun around two defenders and found the backboard for the game's lone goal at the 24:49 mark.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) had eight shots and a defensive save for McDaniel.

Swarthmore finished with a slim 16-15 edge in shots and 16-8 advantage in penalty corners.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Gettysburg on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
