WESTMINSTER, Md. – Johns Hopkins scored three goals in the final 25:16 to break a 1-all deadlock and defeat McDaniel 4-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.

Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) scored to tie the game for the Green Terror (10-6, 4-5 CC), who need a victory on Saturday over Washington (Md.) coupled with wins by Johns Hopkins over Gettysburg and Swarthmore over Haverford to qualify for the five-team CC tournament.

Emily Ortega tallied twice for the Blue Jays (9-7, 6-3 CC), who will earn a spot in the conference tournament with a victory on Saturday.

After Jones finished a feed from Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) with 28:37 to play, Ortega broke the deadlock 4:21 later with a solo marker.

Alexa Lantiere stretched the margin to 3-1 nearly five minutes after that, knocking home a Carly Bianco assist.

Ortega set the final margin off a feed from Meghan Kellett with 1:54 remaining.

Maggie Phillips scored off an Annie Shepard assist in the 12th minute for a 1-0 first half lead.

Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made four saves for McDaniel while Kim Stein made 10 stops for Johns Hopkins.

The Green Terror finished with a 20-17 advantage in shots.

Game time on Saturday is 6 p.m.
