Little scores early
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Muhlenberg scored a pair of second-half goals to break a 1-all deadlock and defeat McDaniel 3-1 in the Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey opener for both teams on Friday.
Julie Little (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) staked the Green Terror (2-3, 0-1 CC) to an early 1-0 lead but the Mules (2-2, 1-0 CC) scored the final three goals to open the conference slate with a a win.
Kayleigh Thies scored two goals for Muhlenberg.
Trailing 1-0 after Little tipped in a hit in by Lara Haab (Gladwyne, Pa./Country Day School of Sacred Heart) off a penalty corner just 6:02 into the game, Thies blasted a high shot on a corner to even the game in the 21st minute.
Thies broke the deadlock off a corner 3:21 into the second half before finding Erin Cummings for an insurance goal in the 64th minute.
Vicci Alexander (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spadling) finished with 13 saves for McDaniel while Sierra Lenker made six stops at the other end.
Muhlenberg finished with a 20-12 advantage in shots and 14-9 edge in corners.
The Green Terror returns to action at Stevenson on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
