WESTMINSTER, Md. – Swarthmore scored five straight points in overtime to open up an eight-point advantage and defeat McDaniel 89-81 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) led the Green Terror (9-12, 5-9 CC) with a career-best 20 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Four of the McDaniel starters reached double figures and all five had no fewer than eight points.

Cam Wiley netted 21 points to lead the Garnet (17-4, 11-3 CC), who took over sole possession of first place in the conference with the win. Zack Yonda added 17 points, including eight in the extra session.

Trailing 68-55 with 8:35 to play in regulation after Swarthmore had scored eight straight points, Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) drained a 3-pointer with 7:04 on the clock to make it an eight-point game.

A Yrizarry free throw and back-to-back Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum) 3-pointers from the right wing made it a 68-67 game with 4:07 showing.

Wiley responded with a triple of his own to stretch the lead back to four but Yrizarry converted a three-point play with 2:19 remaining.

After Nate Shafer converted a layup, Isaac Ray (Fredericksburg, Pa./Northern Lebanon) drained a 3-pointer from the left wing to tie the game with just over a minute to play.

Wiley drove the lane and scored with 44.1 seconds remaining to put the Garnet back on top but Perugino was fouled on a putback attempt with 25.3 ticks on the clock.

The senior sank both free throws to once again tie the game. Wiley got a look at an elbow jumper but his attempt was long, sending the game to overtime.

Two Robbie Walsh free throws and a Wiley jumper in the first 1:17 of overtime gave the visitors the lead for good.

A Yrizarry layup cut the deficit to two but Yonda drained triples on back-to-back possession and then hit two free throws to open up an 87-79 lead with 35.1 seconds remaining.

Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Sam Lebryk traded free throws in the final 23 seconds for the final margin.

The game's first 12:10 featured six ties and eight lead changes before 3-pointers from Yonda and Lebryk keyed a 21-11 stretch that pushed the lead to double digits in the final 32 seconds.

Yrizarry was able to putback a Cannon miss at the buzzer to make it a 45-37 game at the half.

Swarthmore opened up a 12-point lead early in the half. The lead remained in double figures at 60-49 with 12:24 to play before the Green Terror reeled off six straight points to close the margin to five.

McWilliams finished with 18 points while Perugino added 15 points and a career-best six assists. Cannon chipped in 15 points and five helpers to go with eight boards.

The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
