Harper tallies career-best 17 points

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lynchburg started the second half on a 20-9 run to build a 17-point lead en route to a 78-68 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday.

DJ Harper (Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) led the Green Terror (1-1) with a career-best 17 points while Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) added a team-best 18 points and Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) established a career high with 12 points.

Austin Wrighten led four starters in double figures for the Hornets (1-0) with 22 points.

Wrighten netted the game's first five points before layups from Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Harper closed the deficit to one with 16:57 to play in the opening half.

Five straight points from Connor Schroeder quickly pushed the lead to six.

McDaniel once again closed to within 12-11 with 11:41 to play but back-to-back Schroeder 3-pointers pushed the lead to seven with 9:07 on the clock.

Lynchburg played with a lead between three and eight points for the rest of the first half before taking a 33-27 advantage into the locker room.

Devon Duvall (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) and Wrighten traded baskets in the first 31 seconds of the second half before a single Cannon free throw made it a 35-30 game.

Wrighten then hit a jumper to spark a 9-0 run that pushed the lead to double digits before three and a half minutes had elapsed in the stanza.

The Green Terror got no closer than nine the rest of the way.

McWilliams led the way on the glass with eight rebounds while Harper had seven.

The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference opener at home against Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
