LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall put together a 27-6 run to build a 14-point lead late in the first half en route to a 70-50 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball victory over McDaniel on Saturday.
Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) led the Green Terror (2-9, 0-5 CC) with 13 points, matching his season high.
J.C. McGrath led the Diplomats (11-1, 5-0 CC) with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists off the bench. Brandon Federici and Matthew Tate chipped in 17 and 14 points, respectively.
A DJ Harper (Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) three-point play sparked an 11-4 start to the game for McDaniel. The Green Terror defense limited Franklin & Marshall to a 1-for-9 showing from the floor over the game's first six minutes.
Federici changed that, however, hitting a 3-pointer and traditional three-point play on consecutive possessions to draw the hosts to within one.
Still trailing 17-15 after two Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) free throws, Federici hit his second triple to give the Diplomats the lead for good and spark the game-clinching run with 10:19 to play in the opening half.
A Kwiatkowski 3-pointer with 1:56 to play in the stanza snapped a drought of 9 minutes, 49 seconds without a field goal and made it a 31-20 game.
Franklin & Marshall took a 37-25 lead into the intermission before a McGrath three-point play capped an 11-3 first 5:19 of the second half to extend the lead to 20 for the first time.
Two Benjamin Young (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) layups around a Harper jumper closed the deficit to 62-45 with 3:34 to play but that's as close as McDaniel could get.
Harper finished with 12 points while Cannon added eight points and six rebounds.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Tuesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
