WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall finished the game on a 9-0 run to top McDaniel 62-51 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the Green Terror (4-15, 1-11 CC) with 17 points and four assists.

Brandon Federici led three players in double figures for the Diplomats (16-3, 10-2 CC) with 18 points. He also had six rebounds and four steals. J.C. McGrath added 16 points and Ignas Slyka had 14 points and three steals.

Trailing 40-31 early in the second half, Federici hit a 3-poiner to spark a 7-0 burst that closed the deficit to two with 13:06 to play.

Back-to-back Stephen Lang (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) 3-pointers stretched the lead back to eight before the Diplomats netted 11 straight points to take a 49-46 lead – its first since late in the first half – with 6:48 remaining.

A McWilliams 3-pointer tied the game 24 seconds later but layups from Lionel Owona and McGrath gave the visitors a 53-49 lead.

McWilliams hit a cutting layup with 3:30 on the clock to make it a two-point game but Federici put back his own miss to push the lead back to four at the other end.

Franklin & Marshall hit five of its six free-throw attempts down the stretch and added a layup just before the final horn to set the final margin.

The Diplomats jumped out to an 8-3 lead before McWilliams and Federici traded baskets.

Two Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) free throws and a DJ Harper (Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) tied the game at 10-all with 13:33 showing.

After the teams traded baskets for the next eight minutes, Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and McWilliams hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to take a 26-21 lead with 4:44 remaining.

Triples from Harper and McWilliams around a Federici jumper stretched the advantage to nine before a Cannon three-point play on a 2-on-1 break made it a 35-23 game with 1:39 to play in the opening half.

McGrath hit a layup on the Diplomats' final possession of the half to make it a 10-point game at the break.

Kwiatkowski finished with 11 points while Lang added 10.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
