WESTMINSTER, Md. – Dickinson built a 21-point lead before staving off a McDaniel rally to take a 58-47 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball victory on Wednesday.
Stephen Lang (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) led the Green Terror (4-16, 1-12 CC) with 18 points, including hitting five 3-pointers.
Justus Melton led three players in double figures for the Red Devils (12-8, 8-5 CC) with 18 points. He also added nine rebounds. Moses Romocki added 13 points and Bryce Allen chipped in 12.
Dickinson jumped out to a 15-2 lead, hitting its first six shots, including three of its four first-half treys.
Triples from Isaac Ray (Fredericksburg, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Lang helped close the deficit to 19-11 with 11:47 to play.
The Red Devils, however, extended the lead back out to 14 en route to a 30-18 halftime lead.
Mike Hinckley and Romocki hit 3-pointers to stretch the lead to 52-31 with 6:44 to play before McDaniel closed the game on a 16-6 run.
Lang started the rally with a 3-pointer before Dickinson eventually pushed the lead back to 20 at 56-36 with 4:08 to play.
A Ray three-point play and eight straight points from Lang chipped the deficit to 56-47 with 1:16 on the clock.
The Red Devils were forced to put their starters back into the game and Bryce Allen hit two free throws with 25 ticks remaining to seal the win.
Ray finished with nine points. Sam Beverly (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) added two points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
McDaniel returns to action at No. 7 Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
