McDaniel finishes seventh at Vulcan Invite

Green Terror cards 909 in 54-hole event

BELLE VERNON, Pa. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman) carded a 219 for 54 holes over two days at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California (Pa.) in men's golf action on Sunday and Monday.

The Green Terror posted a three-round score of 909 in the 13-team event. Playing 36 holes on the red course of Cedarbook Golf Course on Sunday, McDaniel carded a 302 in the morning round before posting a round of 297 in the afternoon. On Monday, the Green Terror posted a score of 310 on the gold course, which is 554 yards longer and has a par 72 compared to the par 71 on the red course.

Wilmington won the event with a score of 855. Allegheny was the highest finishing of four Division III team, finishing fifth with a score of 888. Carnegie Mellon shot a round of 917 (10th) while Washington & Jefferson posted a score of 926 (12th).

Kovalcheck finished tied for 10th overall, carding a 69 in the afternoon round on Sunday for his third sub-par round of the season and fifth of his career – three of which have come on the Cedarbrook Red Course. He posted matching round of 75 on either side of the season-low score.

Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) finished 36th overall with a total of 229, posting rounds of 76 and 73, respectively on Sunday and an 80 on Monday.

KJ Mazurek (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) placed 44th with a 232, turning in a round of 75 to open the tournament followed by a 77 in the second round. He closed out the weekend with an 80.

Logan Connaughton (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) and Bryan Johnson (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished as part of six-way tie for 49th overall with a score of 234. Connaughton carded a 76 in the first round and back-to-back round of 79 while Johnson opened with an 80 before knocking two strokes off in each round thereafter.

Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallston) turned in a 36th-place finish as an individual with a score of 229 (75-78-76).

The Green Terror returns to action at the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Tournament hosted by Washington & Jefferson on Sunday and Monday.
