McDaniel finishes second at Kravetz after rain washes Day Two
PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman) finished second with a round of 77 to lead McDaniel to a second-place finish at the Fred B. Kravetz Invitational in men's golf action on Friday.
After the first round on Irondequoit Country Club, the Green Terror carded a round of 327 – five strokes behind host Rochester. After battling high winds and lightning-fast greens on Friday, the six-team field, which included three teams ranked in the latest Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches' Poll, was set to move to Oak Hill on for the second half of the prestigious 36-hole tournament but Saturday's round was cancelled due to rain in the area.
With that, the final tournament standings were set with the final first-round scores, giving the team title to Rochester. No. 5 Huntingdon's Chase Blaich edged Kovalcheck by one stroke in round one for the individual crown.
Only three other individual broke 80 for the opening 18. McDaniel's Greg Bowman (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) finished tied for sixth overall with a round of 81.
Chris Merrill (Kingsville, Md./Fallston) finished tied for 11th overall, carding an 82.
The Green Terror returns to action at the Ursinus Invitational on Tuesday.
