MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) was one of four golfers to post a round of 79 but was awarded the individual crown on a match of cards to lead McDaniel to the team title at the Myrtle Beach Shootout in men's golf action on Tuesday.
Lillie recorded a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole of the Love Course at Barefoot Golf Resort to break the tie that included teammate Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), who also posted a round of 79 as part of the Green Terror's score of 318. Rutgers-Camden finished second in the tournament with a score of 339.
Playing in windy conditions for the entire round, three other McDaniel players posted a score of 80.
Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) and Alex Matos (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) finished as part of the group tied for fifth. Tim LaSarso Jr. (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury), playing as an individual also carded a round of 80.
Steven Tanen (Laurel Hallow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) rounded out the starting five with a round of 83 to finish 12th.
McDaniel returns to action at the Gettysburg Spring Invitational on Saturday.
