Kane, Mewhirter fire 78
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) and Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) each posted rounds of 78 to lead McDaniel to a sixth-place finish at the Messiah Falcons Classic at Blue Ridge Golf Club in men's golf action on Tuesday.
Playing the same course that will host the Centennial Conference championship this weekend, the Green Terror joined Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall in sixth place with a round of 315, six strokes behind Gettysburg, which posted the best score of any conference team in the field with a 309 to finish fourth. Stevenson won the 17-team invitational with a round of 298.
Kane and Mewhirter finished as part of a 10-way tie for 20th place with their rounds of 78.
James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) finished one shot behind the group in 30th place with a 79.
Wes Talbot-Wendlandt (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder), playing as an individual finished with a round of 80.
The 54-hole championship tees off on Friday at 12 p.m. and continues on Saturday and Sunday.
