Norwitz fires 75 to lead way in spring-opening win
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) fired a 75 to finish second overall and lead McDaniel to the team title at the Myrtle Beach Shootout in men's golf action on Tuesday.
The Green Terror, playing six in the lineup to count the top four scores, needed to go to the fifth-man score to break a tie and earn the team title. McDaniel and Rutgers-Camden each fired rounds of 315 at the Dye Club Course at Barefoot Golf Resort. However, the Green Terror received an 83 from Alex Kane (Danvers, Mass./Masconomet Regional) as the fifth-place score to win out on the first tiebreaker by three strokes.
Tom Schultice of Rutgers-Camden claimed the individual title with a round of 74.
Cody Mewhirter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) finished fifth overall for McDaniel, carding a round of 78.
James Lillie (Garret Park, Md./Walter Johnson) posted a score of 80 to finished tied for seventh while Mike Filler (Baltimore, Md./Open Bible Christian Academy) finished 14th overall with a round of 82.
Steven Tanen (Laurel Hallow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) matched Kane with a score of 83 to finish tied for 17th.
McDaniel returns north for the Gettysburg Spring Invitational on Saturday. Tee time is 1 p.m.
