Garruppo fires 148 to win Kravetz

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Christian Garruppo (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton Head Prep) posted matching rounds of 74 to win the individual title at the Fred Kravetz Invitational and lead McDaniel to a second-place finish in men's golf action on Friday and Saturday.

The Green Terror held the first-round lead with a round of 310 at Irondequoit on Friday, edging Franklin & Marshall by two shots. The Diplomats, however, bettered McDaniel by two strokes on Saturday at Oak Hill 305-307 to force a tie atop the standings. Franklin & Marshall earned the team title by virtue of the tiebreaker – the non-counting score for Saturday's round. Brad Lankler edged Kevin Keane (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), 82-83.

Garruppo fired a two-day score of 148 to win the tournament by three shots over Rochester's Jack Mulligan. Garrupp's 74 was the low round each day.

Shawn MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass./St. Mary's Lynn) matched Garruppo on Saturday with a round of 74 to follow up his 83 on Friday, finishing 11th overall with a score of 157.

Brian Norwitz (Germantown, Md./Northwest) carded a 36-hole score of 158 to finish 12th overall. He posted a round of 78 on Friday and 80 on Saturday.

Keane and Brandon Vance (Worcester, Md./Methacton) tied for 19th place overall with a score of 160. Keane posted a 77 over the first 18 holes. Vance posted a round of 79 on Saturday after a round of 81 on Friday.

Matt Cramer (New Market, Md./Oakdale) played as an individual, finishing with a score of 165 (78-87) to place 27th.

McDaniel returns to action at the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational on Sunday and Monday, Apr. 23-24. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. both days.
