Big third quarter lifts Salisbury
Fourth-ranked Sea Gulls down McDaniel 12-6
SALISBURY, Md. - Sam Bradman netted five goals to lead No. 4 Salisbury to a 12-6 victory over McDaniel in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Leading 4-2 at the intermission, the Sea Gulls (4-0) used a five-goal third quarter to extend the lead to seven en route to the victory.
Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and TJ Willoughby (Sykesville, Md./Century) added a two goals and an assist apiece for the Green Terror (1-1), who were outshot 47-29 in the contest.
After Jake DeLillo and Preston exchanged goals in the first 1:42 of the contest, Mike Von Kamecke netted a man-up goal off a Bradman assist to give the hosts a 2-1 lead with 20 seconds to play in the opening period.
Shawn Zordani extended the lead to two just 2 minutes, 22 seconds into the second quarter before Willoughby founded the back of net off a Preston feed with 54 seconds to play in the first half.
Bradman started his natural hat trick with one second showing in the quarter before tallying twice in the first 2:17 of the third quarter.
Matt Pierotti sandwiched a pair of goals around a Matt Cannone marker over the remainder of the period.
JS Duke (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) and DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Baltimore) trimmed the deficit to 9-4, tallying 49 seconds apart.
Bradman and Preston exchanged goals a minute apart to make it a 10-5 game with 10:13 to play but Bradman and Kyle Quist extended the lead back to seven with 2:02 showing.
Willoughby closed out his two-goal day with McDaniel's second man-down goal of the season in the final 1:07 of the game.
Ryan Finch won 11 of 15 faceoffs for Salisbury.
Brad Motley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made 17 saves in goal for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
