McDaniel wins one-goal affair
Rickels tallies in final 38 seconds for 8-7 win at Ursinus
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) capped a four-goal day, tallying the game-winner with 38 seconds remaining to give McDaniel an 8-7 Centennial Conference (CC) men’s lacrosse victory at Ursinus on Saturday.
Jed Barnes (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) added two goals and an assist for the Green Terror (4-4, 1-1 CC), who evened its conference record with conference’s ninth one-goal victory in 14 games this season.
Pat Gillen registered two goals to lead the Bears (7-1, 3-1 CC), who suffered their first defeat of the season.
Rickels gave the Green Terror a 7-6 lead with 5:33 to play in the third quarter off a Barnes feed before Jeff Ocampo evened the game with 9:46 to play.
Rickels then recorded his team-leading 19th goal of the season for the game-winning tally.
William Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) gave McDaniel an early 1-0 lead, scoring unassisted 1:25 into the game.
Goals from Gillen and Dan Monnzo gave the hosts a one-goal advantage with 10:14 to play in the period before Barnes evened the score at the 3:29 mark.
Just 26 seconds later, Eric Farris put Ursinus back on top by one before Gillen stretched the lead to two after one quarter.
A Barnes tally 4:32 into the second quarter and back-to-back Rickels markers gave the Green Terror a 5-4 edge with 8:16 to play in the first half.
David Kraus tied the game at 5-all before JS Duke (Fort Washington, Md./Upper Dublin) scored the second McDaniel man-up goal for a 6-5 advantage with 27 seconds to play in the half.
A Jake West marker 2:25 into the third quarter evened the game at 6-all.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
