First-half burst carries Gettysburg

Bullets put together 7-1 run in first half to down McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Joe Brody recorded three goals and an assist to lead second-ranked Gettysburg to a 15-6 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Pat Satory and Danno Lynch each added three goals and an assist for the Bullets (11-1, 5-0 CC), who scored seven of eight goals after spotting the Green Terror (5-5, 2-2 CC) a 1-0 lead just 1:34 into the game.

DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland), the two-time reigning CC Player of the Week, tallied three of McDaniel’s four goals while Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) added two goals and an assist.

After TJ Willoughby (Sykesville, Md./Century) staked the Green Terror to its early advantage, Satory finished a Brody feed at the 11:06 mark of the first quarter to even the score.

Brody made it 2-1 just 4:40 later to give the Bullets the lead for good.

Sartory stretched the lead to 3-1 before Rickels finished a solo run with 1:46 to play in the period to make it a 3-2 game.

Josh Reichert stretched the lead back to two before the quarter expired and then made it 5-2 just 13 seconds into the second period.

Lynch and Chris Cahill pushed the lead to 7-2 at the intermission before Rickels scored two goals around a Lynch tally over the first eight minutes of the third quarter to pull the hosts within 8-4.

Patrick Koehl started a four-goal stretch for Gettysburg that spanned the final 3:02 of the third quarter and first 4:39 of the fourth quarter.

Preston fired home a solo marker at the 7:09 mark of the final period but Andrew Ryan and Satory stretched the Bullet advantage to 15-4 with 3:41 to play.

Preston and Phil Thompson exchanged tallies 28 seconds apart for the final margin.

The Green Terror won 16 of 25 faceoffs, including a 15-for-22 showing from Matt Dean (Glen Burnie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) at the X. Dean added six ground balls.

McDaniel returns to action at Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.
