McDaniel uses 10-0 run to key 13-6 victory over Clark

WESTMINSTER, Md. – DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) notched three goals and three assists to lead McDaniel to a 13-6 victory over Clark in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Friday.

Nick DiBernardo (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) added a hat trick for the Green Terror (2-3) while also contributing two helpers.

Eugene Arsenault paced the Cougars (1-2) with two goals.

Rickels found Skippy Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) just 47 seconds into the game for a 1-0 McDaniel lead.

With 10:24 remaining, Danny Heelan evened the game on Clark's only shot of the first quarter.

From there, the Green Terror reeled off six more goals in the period and 10 more in the half for an 11-1 halftime advantage.

With 8:44 remaining in the first period, DiBernardo found Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) for his first of two goals before Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) tallied off a Rickels helper 39 seconds later.

Matt Dean (Glen Burnie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) took possession of the ensuing faceoff on a procedure call and passed to Rickels, who found the back of the net for a 4-1 lead with 7:59 on the clock.

Just 1:14 later, DiBernardo tallied off a Clark feed for the team's most offensive quarter with nearly half of the period still to play.

Woglom and Young tallied in the final 4:05 of the stanza off assists from Rickels and DiBernardo, respectively.

Off the opening faceoff of the second quarter, Dean found Yancheski for an 8-1 lead just eight seconds into the period.

DiBernardo scored off a Jed Barnes (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) helper and Rickels tallied unassisted just 55 seconds apart for a 10-1 lead with 11:18 showing.

A Woglom-to-DiBenardo tally capped the first half scoring with 3:16 to play.

Arsenault and Wasson made it an 11-3 game with 2:45 to play in the third quarter before Rickels capped his hat trick off the first of two Andrew Mummert (Dillsburg, Md./Northern) assists with 28 seconds to play.

Three Clark tallies by three different players in a 2-minute, 35-second span trimmed the deficit to 12-6 but Clary capped a two-goal, one-assist day with 3:50 to play to set the final margin.

Dean won nine of the 14 faceoffs he took and picked up three ground balls.

McDaniel finished with a 42-20 advantage in shots, including by a 12-1 margin in the decisive first quarter.

The Green Terror returns to action against Thomas at Babson on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
