Monzo tallies two in victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored a single man-up goal in the third quarter to take a 6-4 lead en route to a 7-6 victory over Goucher in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Zach Monzo (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) led the Green Terror (1-3) to its first win of the season with two goals.

Pierce Ingram paced the Gophers (0-4) with three goals, including pulling the visitors within one with 42.9 seconds to play.

Knotted at 4-all after Ingram finished back-to-back Goucher goals in a 49-second span, Monzo finished a feed from Matt Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) with 1:05 to play in the first half for a 5-4 lead at the break.

Dupras provided the only scoring of the third quarter, stretching the lead to two off a Pat Bivons (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) late in a man-up situation.

Steve Patterson finished a solo run with 10:06 to play to make it a one-goal game.

Ryan Weiss (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) tallied an unassisted marker with 2:19 to play, stretching the lead back to two before Ingram set the final margin.

The Gophers won the final faceoff but Christian Dallmus (Acton, Mass./The Rivers School) made his 16th save in the waning seconds to preserve the victory.

Ingram and Michael Morgan staked Goucher to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 9:57 before Monzo cut the deficit in half with 53 ticks remaining.

Sean Brett (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) finished a solo run to even the game 2:48 into the second quarter.

Troy Becker (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) scored off a feed from Brett in a man-up situation with 7:39 showing to give each player a goal and an assist on the day.

Zach Bicho (Millstone, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) won 10 of his 15 faceoffs, adding four ground balls. Dallmus and Alec Schunk (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) added four ground balls each.

McDaniel returns to action at Marywood on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
