Dupras tallies three and one in third straight win
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel scored six straight goals in the second quarter to overcome a 3-0 first-quarter deficit en route to a 12-7 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Ferrum on Saturday.
Matt Dupras (Hillsborough, N.J./Immaculata) scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Green Terror (3-3), who notched its third straight victory. Timothy McNichol (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) also recorded a hat trick.
Daniel Batong led the Panthers (1-8) with two goals and an assist.
Trailing 3-0, McNichol finished a pass from Jason Lawrence (Fallston, Md./Fallston) to get McDaniel on the scoreboard with 11:57 to play in the second quarter.
Lawrence ripped a long shot to finish a solo run 1:27 later to draw the hosts within one.
McNichol drew the Green Terror even with 9:34 on the clock before Lawrence found Ryan Weiss (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) for the go-ahead goal one minute later.
A Pat Bivons (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) rebound and stick back stretched the lead to 5-3 with 7:25 on the clock before Dupras finished the six-goal flurry with a man-up tally at the 5:56 mark.
Nick Smith closed the margin to 6-4 with 3:11 on the clock before Dupras finished on the break with 1:30 showing for a 7-4 halftime lead.
Goals from Smith and Ryan Higgins 3 minutes, 8 seconds apart closed the deficit to 7-6 with 9:36 to play in the third quarter.
A Dupras-to-Patrick Serio (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) man-up tally with 7:19 on the clock started another three-goal run.
Dupras finished a solo run with 3:09 showing to make it a 9-6 game after three quarters before Lawrence scored off a feed from Troy Becker (Yardley, Pa./Notre Dame) 4:21 into the final quarter for a 10-6 lead.
Batong finished a solo run before McNichols capped his hat trick off the ensuing faceoff for an 11-7 advantage with 6:19 on the clock.
Weiss finished the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 5:01 mark.
Will Walter staked Ferrum to a 1-0 lead 1:35 into the game before Ethan Wakefield and Batong scored unassisted goals 47 seconds apart to make it a 3-0 game with 5:11 showing in the first quarter.
Trey Hunt III (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) won 14 of the 15 faceoffs he took for the Green Terror, who also got a 7-for-8 performance from Zach Bicho (Millstone, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) at the X. Hunt added a career-high 10 ground balls.
Christian Dallmus (Acton, Mass./The Rivers School) made 14 saves in the first 55 minutes between the pipes for McDaniel.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Frostburg on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
