Green Terror tallies 3-1 win at Ursinus for second CC victory
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Three different McDaniel players scored goals as part of a 3-1 Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer victory at Ursinus on Saturday.
The Green Terror (5-4, 2-0 CC) tallied twice in the game's final 21:46 to break a 1-all deadlock with the Bears (1-5-1, 0-2 CC) and notch its second conference win of the season after finishing 2008 with just one all season.
After David Breines evened the game off a free kick at the 56:14 mark, Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished a Marrio Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) cross from the left side exactly 12 minutes later to put McDaniel back on top.
Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Carroll) added an insurance goal in the 78th minute on a shot from outside the box.
Micah Powell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) staked the Green Terror to a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute with a shot over the keeper's head and into the back of the net.
Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) made five saves for McDaniel while Mike Alfieri had three for Ursinus.
The Green Terror finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
