McDaniel grabs 3-1 win over Washington
Green Terror tallies early and late for sixth victory
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Micah Powell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) tallied just 2:07 into the game as part of McDaniel's 3-1 Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer win over Washington (Md.) on Saturday.
The Green Terror (6-5, 3-1 CC) built a 2-0 lead with fewer than 20 minutes to play before the Shoremen (2-9, 0-4 CC) - on a Tim Marcin goal - sliced the deficit in half with 4:21 showing.
David Cross (Odenton, Md./Arundel) crossed the ball to set up Powell, who finished for a 1-0 McDaniel lead early in the game.
The Green Terror carried that lead through a physical game that saw three yellow cards.
After a red card put Washington down a man with 20:46 to play, Cross made it a one-goal, one-assist day off the keeper 42 seconds later.
Marcin finished a Matt Sedney helper at the 85:39 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1 but Eddy Lingue (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) set the final margin off a Powell assist with 18 seconds showing.
McDaniel finished with a 19-11 advantage in shots.
Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) made three saves for the Green Terror while Chris Phipps had five for the Shoremen.
McDaniel returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
