McDaniel forges tie with Swarthmore
Weather actually wins, forcing game to be called with 12:11 to play
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Michael Beard (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored in the game's 14th minute to lead McDaniel to a 1-all deadlock with No. 11 Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
An own goal gave the Garnet (13-1-1, 5-1-1 CC) its tally at the 54:18 mark to even the score with the Green Terror (7-7-1, 3-3-1 CC) before torrential rains made the field unplayable and forced the contest to be called with 12:11 to play. Because the game had reached its reasonable point of conclusion of 70 minutes, the game is deemed final per NCAA rules.
Beard's goal came unassisted at the 13:57 mark.
Swarthmore finished with a 10-6 edge in shots.
It marked the second consecutive year that the game between these two teams was called before reaching the 90-minute mark.
Zachary Weimer made two saves for the Garnet while Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty), made three for the Green Terror.
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
