Pressure on the opponent; off the defense
WESTMINSTER, Md. – When the McDaniel men's soccer season opens this weekend at the Penn State-Behrend tournament, there will be one huge question mark that needs to be answered – goaltending.
The Green Terror enters 2010 with two goalkeepers on the roster who have a combined zero minutes of collegiate experience. The freshman tandem of Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Jamie Hill (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) will have to replace the graduation of seniors Benjamin Knight and Robert Hollasch.
The good news is that might be the only real question with which McDaniel entered preseason camp.
An experience defensive line will help protect the freshman netminder.
The Green Terror will also look to seniors Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Carroll) and David Cross (Odenton, Md./Arundel) to lead the offense and keep the ball out of the defensive end as much as possible. Wineke led the McDaniel offense in 2009 with eight goals and two assists.
The Green Terror also returns Micah Powell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Eddy Lingue (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake), who all made significant offensive contributions in their first years with the squad.
