McDaniel evens record with blanking of NYU-Poly
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A day after being blanked its opener, McDaniel turned the tables, scoring 23 seconds apart for the lone goals of the game in a 2-0 non-conference men's soccer win over Polytechnic Institute of New York University at the Lycoming Kickoff Classic on Sunday.
Four different players tallied a point for the Green Terror (1-1), who finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots that included a 9-1 margin in the decisive second half.
Brendan Finn made four saves for the Fighting Blue Jays (0-2-1) in net.
After a scoreless first 75 minutes, Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) found Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty), whose intended cross hit the crossbar and went in for the freshman's first goal.
Paul Jaworski (Highland, Md./River Hill) headed in a free kick from Matthew Gillen (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) to make it a 2-0 game at the 75:26 mark.
Freshman Sean Best (Adamstown, Md./Tuscarora) made one save in his first action between the pipes for the shutout.
For their play over the weekend, Gillen, Marrio Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) and Ben Eveler (York, Pa./Red Lion) were named to the all-tournament team.
McDaniel returns to action at Goucher on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
